Biography

Brett Simpson came to PNNL in 2018 joining Risk and Decision Sciences. Prior to joining PNNL, he worked at several Hanford Site prime contractors, including Westinghouse Hanford Company, Lockheed Martin Hanford, CH2M HILL Hanford Group and subcontractors such as Vista Engineering and Nuvotec as a chemical engineer and analyst. He has over 25 years of engineering, data analysis, and quantitative modeling experience. Brett’s projects in supporting Risk and Decision Sciences include, risk modeling and analysis for U.S. High Performance Research Reactor Conversion for NNSA, data analytics for WRPS Industrial Hygiene supporting the Hanford Tank Farm Vapors Program, and program management of the PHOENIX portfolio of self-serve data access and visualization tools for U.S. Department of Energy’s, Richland Operations Office and Office of River Protection. Brett is proficient in:

  • Project management
  • Requirements development for software and process engineering
  • Statistical modeling, using R and Primavera Risk Analysis (Monte Carlo cost and schedule modeling)
  • Data visualization, using Tableau, R, and Microsoft Excel
  • High-level waste characterization
  • Regulatory issues with high-level and low-level waste
  • Ion exchange separation processes, focusing on 137Cs and 90Sr in mildly saline systems
