The Risk and Decision Sciences (RDS) Group is part of the Earth Systems Science Division in the Energy and Environment Directorate of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The group conducts systems, decision, and risk analysis and customer service model activities for the following clients:

  • Hanford Site
  • U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • DOE Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management
  • U.S. Department of Defense
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  • U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
  • commercial clients.

The RDS Group's vision for the future is to enable PNNL's successful application of fundamental science and laboratory engineering signatures to national challenges. This is accomplished by providing increased access to and value from environmental systems biology and advanced systems analysis. RDS capabilities include:

  • integrated modeling and data management technologies on high performance computing platforms
  • information visualization and derivation for application to human health and environmental risk assessment
  • automation and visualization of health risk assessments
  • continued development of integrated risk assessment tools
  • automation of systems analysis techniques
  • complex Environmental and System Decision Support
  • life cycle models and project risk assessment
  • technology assessment and deployment decisions
  • safety and risk assessment of engineered systems.
